Volunteer Opportunity >> Make Corsages and Boutonnieres for UCSF Pediatric Prom

From the desk of Laura G., Chair of Pediatric Prom Floral Committee:

two girls with prom corsagesThe 2017 UCSF Pediatric Prom theme is ‘Masquerade’ and is planned for April 21stThat means we will be making corsages and boutonnieres on April 20th! Please mark your calendars!

New volunteer corsage makers are welcome! For those of you who would like to see what all this is about, please check out the video at: https://youtu.be/utgp5tn_-Rs
Please let us know if you would like to help out by sending a message to info@ucsfpartnersincare.org.

The wonderful staff at UCSF  Benioff Children’s Hospital volunteer their time and expertise to put on this extraordinary prom because they recognize the incredibly positive psychological and emotional value such an event can bring to the lives of these brave teen patients.  The teens attending this special Prom include inpatients, outpatients receiving on-going treatment, and  recent “graduates” who have successfully completed their program of treatment.

You can join UCSF Partners in Care members and friends who support the Prom by volunteering their time and contributing funds in the following ways:

  • Making 200+ corsages and boutonnieres with us on April 20th 2017,
  • Donating money on this website to pay for floral supplies and provide fun party favors.

Once again there will be two venues for making our beautiful flower creations:

1. (East Bay) in Lafayette: The East Bay assembly effort will begin mid-morning so that the flowers can be delivered to UCSF before the evening commute rush. We will let you know more details and timing as we get closer to April.

2. (San Francisco) at a UCSF Mission Bay campus classroom: We will let you know more details and timing as we get closer to April, but this session will be during the afternoon.

Please share this information. The number of corsages and boutonnieres we need to make is always increasing and as they say “many hands make light work”! Those of you who helped last year know that this is a fairly easy task and a chance to learn a new skill and to make some new friends. Enjoy a morning or afternoon of camaraderie among a group who come together to create something beautiful for our brave young patients who are so very deserving of a night of fun!

Please note the flowers and supplies we use are not free. Last year we made over 235 corsages and boutonnieres at an average cost of $9 each>>1/3 the cost of a retail corsage!
We rely on membership dues/contributions to cover costs. You can help by making a donation to UCSF Partners in Care for $75 or more and designating Pediatric Prom in the memo section. This contribution will make you a “member” of the UCSF Partners in Care community and will show your support for the many programs and grants we provide in support of patients and their families throughout the year.
